Maybe you’ve been meaning to get into weekly therapy for a while now, but your schedule has been so hectic and demanding that a weekly therapy appointment feels more overwhelming than supportive.
Perhaps you’re needing help — and a lot of it — right now, and you don’t want to spend months in the traditional weekly model of therapy treatment to feel better.
The good news is that you don't have to wait months or even years to reclaim your peace.
EMDR Intensives offer a transformative path to freedom - where months of healing can unfold in focused, powerful sessions. You can finally release those intrusive thoughts, defuse triggers, calm overwhelming body sensations, and find emotional liberation from past trauma.
This is your chance to go deep, move fast, and emerge stronger. No more starting and stopping. No more weekly scheduling struggles. Just dedicated, intensive healing on your terms.
The path to freedom is closer than you think.
Why EMDR Intensives Can Transform Your Healing Journey
Originally, when Dr. Shapiro pioneered Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), she envisioned therapy sessions lasting 90 minutes or longer to allow for complete processing cycles. Unfortunately, insurance companies often limit therapy to traditional 60-minute sessions. Through years of clinical experience, I've observed several key challenges with the traditional weekly model:
Traditional hour-long sessions often begin with processing daily stressors and recent challenges, leaving precious little time for deeper trauma work. This can leave you feeling stuck in a cycle of managing symptoms rather than addressing their root cause.
The nature of trauma processing means that we need time to safely access memories and establish safety. We also need time to ensure proper grounding before you leave, so that you’re ok after the EMDR session. All that means that we are left with only about 30 minutes for actual trauma processing, and this start-stop pattern can significantly slow your healing journey.
The reality of modern life means immediately returning to work, family, or other responsibilities after sessions. This quick transition can make it difficult to fully engage with deeper trauma work, as you may naturally hold back to protect your ability to function for the rest of your day.
How EMDR Intensives Help
EMDR intensives avoids many of the issues that may come up with traditional weekly therapy:
Accelerated Progress
Rather than spreading processing over weeks or months, intensives allow you to work through traumatic memories more completely in each session. This concentrated approach often leads to faster resolution and relief from trauma symptoms.
Deeper Processing
Extended sessions create a unique therapeutic space where you can fully immerse yourself in the healing process. Without the pressure to quickly wrap up and return to daily responsibilities, many clients find they can access and process deeper layers of their experiences.
Momentum in Healing
Traditional weekly sessions can feel like constantly starting and stopping, potentially disrupting your progress. Intensives maintain therapeutic momentum, allowing you to build upon insights and breakthroughs within the same session.
Flexibility and Convenience
Perfect for busy professionals, parents, or those who travel frequently. Rather than coordinating weekly appointments, you can schedule focused blocks of healing time that work with your life demands.
Cost-Effective
While the upfront investment might be higher, many clients find they need fewer total hours of therapy to achieve their goals through intensives. This can result in both time and cost savings over traditional weekly sessions.
Comprehensive Support
Each intensive session includes carefully timed breaks, grounding exercises, and integration periods. You'll receive focused, undivided attention and support throughout your healing journey.
What to Expect in an EMDR Intensive
The EMDR Intensive consists of 4 parts: A 15 minute consultation call, An Assessment Appointment, an Intensive Processing Session, and a Follow up Appointment.
Consultation Call
We will first talk on the phone for about 15 minutes so we can make sure you are a good fit for an EMDR Intensive. This phone call is free.
Assessment Appointment
Your EMDR intensive journey starts with an in-depth two-hour evaluation session scheduled the week prior to your main processing work. At this appointment, we will discuss the concerns bringing you to treatment, answer any questions that you may have, and set clear treatment goals.
At the end of this appointment, you will be given access to your personalized treatment workbook. This workbook allows you to work on your treatment goals before, during, and after our EMDR intensive sessions.
Preparing for Your Intensive
At your assessment appointment, you will choose how much time you want your Intensive to be for based on your personal tolerance, as well as how much time we feel you will need. While most intensives typically take about 3 hours, there is no way of knowing with certainly how long you will need, but we will make educated assessments as we meet. The duration of the intensive is fully dependent on the complexity of the trauma and the client’s coping mechanisms, so we cannot make promises on duration of treatment.
During Your Intensive
Extended sessions typically last 3 hours, with regular breaks built in to prevent emotional and mental fatigue. Throughout our time together, we'll alternate between periods of active processing and integration, incorporating grounding and stabilization exercises as needed. The pace is always flexible and adjusted to meet your specific needs.
Your Intensive processing session begins by developing resources to increase your sense of calm, security, and control, allowing you to more confidently examine your trauma. The heart of the EMDR Intensive is then dedicated to reprocessing traumatic memories and associated emotions. You’ll dive into a focused, fast-tracked journey designed to reduce trauma, pain, and enhance feelings of calmness and fulfillment.
After Your Intensive
The Intensive Program concludes with a 1 hour follow up appointment the week after your processing session to help you integrate the new insights you have gained in the Intensive.
Every person's healing journey is unique, and some people may benefit from additional EMDR sessions beyond the core intensive program. Note: additional sessions beyond the Follow-up Appointment are not included in the Intensive Program fee and will be billed separately. In complex cases, such as with multiple traumatic events, additional intensive work may be recommended.
Who Can Benefit from EMDR Intensives?
Those Seeking Breakthrough in Traditional Therapy
If you've been engaged in talk therapy but feel stuck with deeply ingrained beliefs or the persistent effects of past trauma, EMDR intensives can provide the breakthrough you need. Whether you're working with a therapist who isn't EMDR-trained or simply need additional support, intensives can complement your existing therapeutic work and help you move past stubborn blocks that have resisted traditional approaches.
Individuals Preparing for Life Transitions
Whether you're approaching marriage, preparing for parenthood, starting a new job, or embarking on a significant creative project, EMDR intensives can help you process past experiences that might impact these new chapters. Many clients, especially those focused on breaking generational patterns or healing childhood wounds, find intensives particularly powerful for creating meaningful change before major life transitions.
Action-Oriented Individuals
Some people prefer to tackle challenges head-on rather than gradually working through difficult emotions week after week. If you're ready to dive deep and have the emotional resources to handle intensive work, this approach might align with your healing style. Many clients who choose intensives have tried other therapeutic approaches and are prepared to engage fully with the process.
Busy Professionals and Parents
For professionals with demanding travel schedules or irregular work hours, or parents struggling with consistent childcare arrangements, traditional weekly therapy can feel impossible to maintain. EMDR intensives offer a focused, time-efficient alternative that accommodates these unique scheduling challenges.
Those with Limited Time Windows
If you have a specific window of opportunity—such as a summer break, sabbatical, or medical leave—intensives can help you make the most of this time for deep healing work. This format allows you to achieve significant progress in a concentrated timeframe, perfect for those with strict schedules or limited availability.
Distance Clients
Location doesn't have to be a barrier to receiving this specialized treatment. Clients can travel to our office in Montgomery, OH and stay nearby for a few days to complete their intensive work. This makes transformative healing accessible to those from anywhere in the country who are willing to make a brief trip for concentrated therapeutic work.
Individuals Seeking Efficient Progress
