How do I know if I need therapy?

While everyone chooses to start therapy for a different reason, in general people often start therapy because they are struggling with their day to day life. For some people, it means that their anxiety is too much to manage on their own, for others their relationships are causing them a lot of stress, and for other people they need someone who is not their friend or mom who can help them process what they are feeling and work things out.

I’m anxious about starting therapy. What can I expect?

It’s normal to be anxious about doing something new, and therapy is no different. That’s part of why we offer a free 15 minute phone consultation so you can begin to connect to the therapist you’ll be working with and feel more comfortable with them. In therapy, you can expect a warm, respective, and supportive environment where you will be listened to, and are able to express whatever you need to.

I’m worried my therapist will think there’s something wrong with me.

It’s not uncommon for people to worry their therapist is going to judge them, but us therapists don’t judge. We hear all kinds of stories all day from many different types of people, and we understand that people do the best they can. if your struggling with something it’s not about you, it just means your having a hard time managing the realities of life.

How long will therapy take?

It depends. Some of our clients come for just a few sessions or for several months for support through a difficult time, to focus on a specific concern, or until they feel they are bouncing back or moving forward. This is considered shorter term therapy or counseling, and we are happy to work on a short- term basis when it’s appropriate.

Others benefit from longer term counseling. They may have long standing issues, childhood experiences or traumas that are interfering with their lives, or or on-going stressors or changes in their career, relationships, health, recovery, or families. These issues often require a longer period of therapy, usually for about a year or sometimes longer.

Some clients may attend therapy for a few years as they continue to benefit from on-going or intermittent counseling. Others use therapy for a period of time, take a break, and return when they are ready. If something comes up or they need to do more work, they reach out to re-start therapy.

In short, there are lots of options and flexibility depending on what works best for you.

How often will sessions be?

Together, you will decide with your therapist how frequent sessions should be. With that said, consistency brings the best results, and most therapy clients come weekly at least in the first month or so. We will regularly assess what is or isn’t helpful and have on- going dialogue about any ways we can do better as your therapist. Frequency and length of sessions is part of that discussion including assessing when it is time to add something else, refer to other resources, wind down, complete therapy, or pause.

Occasionally, people attend therapy more often and may come twice a week for a period of time.  Others prefer less frequent or longer sessions. Many reduce counseling frequency once things improve and attend every other week then monthly to maintain gains they have made in therapy.

What are your fees?

Our fee ranges from $120 to $140 for a 50 minute session, depending on which therapist you see. We accept credit cards, cash, checks, and HSA and FSA cards. Payment for the session is expected at the time of the session.

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy, and sessions will be billed if missed.

Do you work with men?

Yes! While our practice specializes in working with women, we see men as well.

Do you record sessions?

No, unlike other large group therapy practices or practices that are owned by insurance companies, we do not record any sessions, and we do not use AI in our practice. We do this to protect our clients information and privacy.
